    Cox & Box

Sergeant Bouncer, a retired soldier, is an inventive lodging-house keeper, with two tenants, Mr Cox, a man who works all day making hats, and Mr Box, a man who works all night setting type for the daily newspaper.

Sergeant Bouncer has learned that he can earn twice as much rent for his accommodation by letting it to these two tenants at the same time. His scheme is simple:  as soon as one leaves for work in the morning he carefully cleans the place up before the other comes home from his all-night work.

All is well until Mr Cox, the hatter, is given the day off. He returns home to find Mr. Box, the printer,  in his apartment, in his bed, using his fireplace and his coal to cook his breakfast. There is an altercation, first between Cox and Box and later with Bouncer, but eventually, because of a fortunate and improbable coincidence, all is settled amicably.

    Trial By Jury

Edwin, the Defendant, tiring of his sweetheart Angelina, has fallen in love with another, and Angelina accordingly has taken him to court for breach of promise. The Usher, while calling for impartiality by the Jurymen, shows a definite bias for the fair Plaintiff. Edwin regrets his actions but explains that he simply happened to fall in love with another girl. Both the Judge and Jury have very little sympathy for him. Edwin proposes various solutions all in vain. He declares that although when tipsey he would likely beat her, he will marry Angelina if she agrees that he may marry his new sweetheart later. The Judge proposes that Edwin be made tipsy to see whether he would, indeed, beat her. Although Edwin happily agrees, both Angelina and her lawyer vigorously object. Finally the Judge, losing patience and eager to get away, decides to marry the beautiful Angelina himself.
