Fraser Valley Stage Memorial Bursary – $500
“Fraser Valley Stage offers a bursary to a School District #34 graduating student who demonstrates talent, interest and ability in at least one of the theatre-related arts of construction, technical design, set design, lighting and sound, or stage management, and who plans to continue post secondary education in a related field. The preferred recipient will have a good academic standing and have participated in high school or community theatre in some area. Fraser Valley Stage will be responsible for the selection of the recipient. This Memorial bursary honours our many members whose contributions over the years have made FVSPS a cultural asset to the Abbotsford community.”
Fraser Valley Stage Annual Bursary in Theatre – $500
Since 2004, FVS has offered bursaries to local students pursuing post secondary education in theatre arts. This bursary is available to any UFV student enrolled in the Theatre program who has completed their first year of study. Emma Roberts (Yale Secondary) was the 2010 recipient.
School Vignettes
As a Millenium Project and with a view to encouraging the interest of local school children, we presented, free of charge to local elementary schools, musical adaptations of Gilbert and Sullivan operettas, notably Pirates of Penzance. These 45 minute vignettes consisted of a costumed mini-cast performing a condensed version including solo numbers interspersed with commentary. These were followed by a question-and-answer session where the children were encouraged to look on this live entertainment as something they might want to make a continuing part of their lives, either as performers or as an audience member. These were presented to 34 elementary schools from 2001 to 2005.
