About

Fraser Valley Stage is an amateur theatrical society based in Abbotsford, British Columbia.  FVS had its roots in the late 1960’s when the Abbotsford Ladies Chorale was part of a night school program in the Abbotsford school district.  The Chorale gradually evolved into Valley Musical Theatre Guild and registered as a non-profit society in 1973.  Since that time the Society has presented on an annual basis full-scale Broadway shows, Gilbert and Sullivan operettas, straight plays, comedies, dramas, and dinner theatre to local audiences in the Abbotsford, Mission, Chilliwack areas.

In the 1980’s its name was changed to Fraser Valley Stage Production Society (now Fraser Valley Stage) to reflect the Society’s participation in all phases of theatre arts and skills.

Membership includes individuals from all walks of life who come together on a voluntary basis to share their common interest in the arts.  Many have spent a lifetime in amateur theatre and have a wealth of experience not only on stage but also in the many off-stage areas of music, direction, choreography and dance, costume design and sewing, prop and set design and construction, publicity and photography.

Since 2001, Fraser Valley Stage has traveled internationally with four Gilbert and Sullivan productions receiving honorable mentions and awards including Best Supporting Female and Best Costumes for The Mikado at the 2003 Waterford International Festival of Light Opera.  2012 marked the third trip to the International Gilbert and Sullivan Festival in Buxton, England, where HMS Pinafore was warmly received by the audience of almost 700, keen to see how the Canadians would interpret this G&S classic!
